What is CBD Oil?

CBD (or cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating compound found in relative abundance in the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). Studies indicate that it is effective in managing a variety of health conditions, including anxiety, inflammation, insomnia and chronic pain.

What is a normal starting dose for CBD oil?

Dosage differs for each person, depending on a range of factors, including weight, height, and reasons for taking CBD. For those new to CBD, we recommend starting with a low dose (e.g. 20 mg) and increasing this gradually until the optimal dosage is found.

The FSA recommends a maximum total daily CBD dose of 70mg. This includes any additional products, so please ensure that you never exceed this amount. While following this guidance, you can manage your daily dosage based on what works best for you, and combine various CBD products if desired.

How to find your optimal CBD oil dosage

To find your optimal dosage, we recommend that you take a low starting dose for at least a week. If you do not notice any benefits after this period of time, increase your dosage by a small amount every few days until the desired effects are achieved.

Once you have found your optimal dosage, you may find that you eventually develop a tolerance to it. If this is the case, it might be worth making a few small and safe adjustments to your daily dose. For example, you could alter the number of times you take CBD per day, or the time of day at which you take it.

If you think you may have taken too much CBD, or experience any adverse side-effects, such as nausea or headaches, we recommend that you lower your dosage immediately.

01

Find the right dosage

The CBD oil dosage depends on many different factors, including weight, height, and reasons for consumption.

02

Put drops under the tongue

Lift your tongue to the roof of your mouth and place your required number of drops beneath it.

03

Leave under the tongue for 1 minute

Leave the oil under your tongue for one minute before swallowing. This allows the CBD to be fully absorbed by the oral mucosa.

After one minute, swallow as usual. It can take 15-30 for CBD to take effect.

Best Ways to Take CBD Oil

There are many different ways to take CBD oil. Common means of administration include CBD capsules, CBD oil drops, CBD balms, CBD edibles and CBD vapes.

1. CBD capsules

CBD capsules are a good place to start for people new to CBD, as they are easy to take and offer a simple way to manage your dosage. Naturecan’s CBD oil capsules come in two dosages: 10mg and 25mg CBD.

2. CBD oils

CBD oil drops have higher bioavailability than most other means of administration, which means that they increase the amount of CBD that enters the bloodstream. To take CBD oil, simply place a few drops under your tongue and hold them there for around a minute. This will allow the CBD oil to enter directly into the bloodstream, meaning that the effects may be felt more quickly than other means of taking CBD.

3. CBD vapes

Vaping is an effective way to absorb CBD into the body. The bioavailability is higher than other routes of administration such as sublingual (oral drops) and topical (skin creams/balms).This means that CBD can enter into the bloodstream faster and its effects can be felt sooner. While vape products are seen as a reduced risk alternative for smokers, we would not encourage non-smokers to take up vaping.

4. CBD balms

While CBD oils and CBD capsules work systemically to affect the whole body, CBD balms and other skincare products allow the user to target problem areas, such as sore joints or muscles, and keep CBD benefits localised to the point where they are most needed.

5. CBD edibles

CBD snacks, CBD gummies and other edible products are a delicious way to get your daily dose of CBD. Popular CBD edibles include cookies, brownies, nut butters, gummies and chocolates.

How much CBD is in one application of CBD balm?

The amount of CBD contained in one application of CBD balm can vary, depending on how much you apply and the product’s CBD concentration.

One way to estimate this is by recording the number of applications you get out of one whole balm container, and dividing the product's total CBD concentration by this number.

For example, if you get about 200 applications from a 100ml tub of CBD arnica cream with 1000mg of CBD,  you can estimate that each application contains about 5mg of CBD.

How much CBD is in one vape puff?

As with CBD balms, the amount of CBD contained in each vape puff depends on many factors, including how much you inhale and the strength that you use.

You can estimate the CBD concentration of one puff by keeping track of how many puffs it takes you to get through one whole cartridge.

For example, if it takes you about 100 puffs to get through a 1ml cartridge containing 500 mg CBD, you can estimate that each puff contains about 5 mg CBD.

Who can take CBD oil?

CBD oil may be of benefit to anyone suffering from a psychological, physiological or neurological disorder.

While research is still fairly limited, studies have shown that CBD can help to manage a range of health conditions, including anxiety, inflammation, insomnia and chronic pain. Please consult with your doctor if you are considering using CBD to treat a specific medical condition. If you are on a prescribed drug, please ask your doctor about possible drug interaction with CBD.

How long will a bottle of CBD oil last?

To find out how long a bottle of CBD oil will last, take the total number of milligrams of CBD contained in the bottle and divide it by your daily dose. For example, if your daily dosage is 21 mg, and you take 5 drops of 10% CBD oil (1000 mg) daily, divide 1000 by 21 and you get 48 - so the bottle would last 48 days.

Which CBD oil strength should I choose?

If you’re new to CBD, we would recommend choosing a low strength oil so you can see how your body reacts, as CBD affects everyone differently. However, it is important to note that choosing a suitable oil strength is not as important as taking the right number of CBD oil drops. This is because oil strengths differ in terms of how much CBD they contain per drop. For example, one drop of 10% CBD oil contains as much CBD as two drops of 5% CBD oil (approximately 4 mg CBD).

How much does CBD oil cost?

This table shows the price of CBD oil per mg for various strengths and the amount of CBD contained within each drop.

For example, in the table below, we can see that 2 drops of 5% CBD oil contain as much CBD as 1 drop of 10% CBD oil (approximately 4 mg of CBD).

As you'd expect, higher strength oils are more expensive than lower strength oils, because they contain more CBD per drop, but you do save overall when buying higher strength oils as the price per mg is lower.

The table below may also be used for translating dosages across different CBD products. For example, we can calculate that one 10mg CBD capsule contains the same dosage as 5 drops of 5% CBD oil, and that one 25mg CBD capsule contains the same amount of CBD as 2 drops of 30% CBD oil.

How much CBD oil should I give my pet?

Pet owners should begin with a minimal amount of CBD oil to see how their pet reacts and if they experience any side effects.

We would recommend that owners give their pets a lower starting dose of around 0.25 mg per 1kg of their weight, and then after two days increase this to a medium dose of 0.5 mg per kg while monitoring how the pet feels. However, if your pet struggles with an ailment or pain, we recommend starting with the strongest dose (please see the table below).
